This glamorous novel follows Flavia, living alone in small town Provence in the late 1920’s, as she studies for her entrance to Oxford, swims in the Med and makes a variety of inappropriate friends. There are some fantastic descriptions of the French coastline and enough details about French cuisine to make your mouth water. I only wish I was as sophisticated as this fascinating bunch of bohemians as they eat, drink and socialise their way through the long summer evenings. Sublime!
