Marvellous Monday Book Group: 14th May »
Thursday 22nd Sep 2011
Like the "Missing" of damocles Tim Gautreaux's novel has hung over me all year challenging me to find a better novel. As a result there has been a certain geographical bias to quite a chunk of my reading. For the record Peter Dexter's "Deadwood" is extraordinary and has ignited my desire to find the perfect Western.
Looking down the root of my list its interesting how much I have allowed customers to steer me often to absolute gems. The customers who led me to Robin Jenkins and Vardis Fisher have done me a great service for instance.
I am aware that my colleagues have all been agressively reading anything they can get their hands on this year and, whilst I know it's not a race(!), even in a non-race my output is looking a bit lax. I can only apologise and promise to do better next year! Here's this year's tally to date:
"Gods of Gotham" by Lyndsay Faye
"The Clearing" by Tim Gautreaux
"Deadwood" by Pete Dexter
"The Glass Book of the Dream Eaters" by G W Dahlquist
"One More Kilometre and we're in the Showers" by Tim Hilton
"A Small Death in Lisbon" by Robert Wilson
"The Cone Gatherers" by Robin Jenkins
"The Crowfield Demon" by Pat Walsh
"The Weirdstone of Brisingamen" by Alan Garner
"Pinocchio" (Graphic Novel) by Winshluss
"A Taste of Chlorine" (Graphic Novel) by Bastien Vives
"Jeff: Job Hunter" (Graphic Novel) by Jack Teagle
"I Kill Giants" (Graphic Novel) by J M Ken Nimura and Joe Kelly
"Pedalare! Pedalare!" by John Foot

"Spooner" by Pete Dexter
"The Gates" by John Connolly
