Marvellous Monday Book Group: 14th May »
Wednesday 21st Sep 2011
Hi there! Well this is doubly exciting for me as not only is it my first post on the gorgeous new site, but it’s also my first blog ever!
Some of you may have seen me hanging around the shop floor, assimilating information from the other guys and trying to help with any book buying needs. If you haven’t then don’t worry, it’s probably not due to inattentiveness – I’ve generally been squirreling away in the office helping put the finishing touches to this massive website project. I’m hoping that I’ll be a more prominent feature in the daylight from now on though, so please come test my bibliotherapist knowledge with any questions!
Working at Mr. B’s has been amazing, but I can’t admit that everything is perfect – I am now in possession of an ever-growing list of books that I want to read. Everyone is just so enthusiastic – colleagues and customers alike! Since working here I’ve succumbed to “The Missing” by Tim Gautreaux (see Ed’s page!), finished off “Alone in Berlin” by Hans Fallada, adored “Swamplandia!” By Karin Russell, and delved into “The Break” by Pietro Grossi.
I think one of the highlights so far has been jumping on another (completely justified) Mr B’s bandwagon and getting through “Death and the Penguin” in an afternoon, only to then hear Andrey Kurkov regale us with tales of his incredible Ukrainian life when he came to visit. And I am currently reading another future guest-author in the form of “Jamrach’s Menagerie” – Libby and I snapped it up and have been comparing our love for the cinematic vibrancy of Carol Birch’s adventurous prose ever since.
And next on my list? Well, about a zillion get added every day, but “Pure” by Andrew Miller is definitely getting my attention, as is the new Murakami. I’ll be blogging about my reading as well as writing various reviews, so I can keep you posted on how my never-ending search for book closure is going!
